7.1 Changed by God
The vessel he was making of clay
was spoiled in the potter’s hand,
and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him.
(Jeremiah 18: 4)
You may like to read and reflect on Jeremiah 18: 1-4.
Innovative and inventive God,
nothing you create is ever wasted.
You have gifted people with able hands and active imaginations
and we praise you for your generosity.
Grant us the wisdom to know that not everything works the way we hope,
but grant us the patience to see how,
in your hands,
new can be born of old,
for your hands are those of the potter
in which new life is realised,
new possibilities,
new chances to be active in and for your realm.
We thank you and give you praise.
Amen.
7.2 Changed by Our Faith
Jesus said to the woman,
“Daughter, your faith
has made you well;
go in peace.”
(Luke 8: 48)
You may like to read and reflect on Luke 8: 40-56.
Faithful God, you seek out the best in all people and you guide us to faith.
Through our faith in you and your faith in us
there is nothing we cannot face;
nothing that we cannot bear;
nothing that cannot be overcome
for you do not leave us to toil alone.
You call us to a community of faith that upholds each other,
strengthens one another and encourages us all.
Bless the work of heart and minds, body and soul,
bless those with whom we share,
and the work that offers you glory.
Amen.
7.3 Together We Are Changed
When he was at the table with them,
he took bread,
blessed and broke it,
and gave it to them.
Then their eyes were opened,
and they recognised him;
and he vanished from their sight.
(Luke 24: 30-31)
Risen Lord,
as on an evening’s walk
two friends shared their sorrow of recent events;
as on an evening’s walk you
were present in your risen glory
yet unrecognised;
as on an evening’s walk
you changed hearts and opened minds
to the truths of Scripture.
So we pray that as we walk together
You will walk with us;
as we walk together
you will change our hearts and open minds,
as we walk together,
you will enable us to grow in wisdom, faith and friendship.
Amen.
