Praying for NEXUS Scotland

1. Seeking God's Blessing on the Work of NEXUS

1.1 Creation

In the beginning
when God created the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless void
and darkness covered the face of the deep,
while a wind from God swept
over the face of the waters.
Then God said, “Let there be light”;
and there was light.
(Genesis 1: 1 – 3)

Mighty Creator,
As you hovered over the chaos of the universe in the beginning
and brought order and
creativity into being;
as wind swept across the face
of the waters
and brought inspiration out of confusion,
as you blessed us with order and creativity;
harmony and inspiration
when you created humankind
you made us in your own image,
we pray that this sacred
and inspired creativity
infuses the work of NEXUS
that all who are part of it
receive inspiration for your work on earth.
Amen

1.2 Prayer

Jesus was praying in a certain place,
and after he had finished,
one of his disciples said to him,
“Lord, teach us to pray,”
(Luke 11: 1)

Our Father in heaven
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

1.3 The Prayers of Others

As you also join in helping us by your prayers, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.
(2 Corinthians 1: 11)

Holy, holy, holy, God,
God of community, three in one,
when we pray we do not come to you alone
but in the company of the communion of saints
of all who offer prayer to you.
We do not understand the mystery of prayer,
yet through the prayers of others
we are upheld and strengthened for service;
in the power of prayer we can achieve great things.
Enable us to hear the prayer that surrounds us each day
and may we never forget
those we promise to hold before you in prayer. Amen.

1.4 Vision

God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” (Genesis 46: 2)

God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
thank you that you have appeared to men and women
in visions and dreams since time began.
Thank you that you have challenged and reassured us;
when futures are uncertain and unknown
Thank you that you have given old dreamers their dying wish
and young ones a vision to hold.
Open our eyes, our hearts and minds
to your visions and dreams
of what the church can do in this country at this time
and bless all we seek to do in your holy name, we pray. Amen.
